For Fall / Winter 21, Vault by Vans has teamed up with British outerwear brand Nigel Cabourn for a collection of footwear and apparel inspired by vintage military materials, colors and aesthetics.

By bringing in collaborator Emilie Casiez, who runs the brand’s women’s clothing line, the collection continues with Calbourn’s penchant for creating garments beholden to his British heritage. Using the design codes of military bags and clothing from the 1940s to 1970s, thick and sturdy textiles, custom jacquards, brushed and chipped metal ventilation holes are key details of the collection, as well as linings from camp, hand drawn details and custom stitching.

Speaking about the collection, the designer said: “I am very happy to present my first collaboration with Vault by Vans. This exciting unisex collection is filled with fun designs inspired by my recent trips to California and Japan. Combining surf style with the classic Cabourn army, a strong color story and graphic influences, I really think we’ve come together to create a funky, relaxed and post-surf inspired collection.

The shoes in the collection include the OG Authentic LX in three colourways. The first – dubbed the army camouflage – gives a contemporary twist to traditional military attire, with pops of orange amid the usual olive, khaki, and army green. The natural / navy colourway features a sturdy natural canvas upper, with a faded pad print on the upper, reminiscent of military canvas duffel bags. Finally, the color blocking in various shades of blue characterizes the third sneaker, with undertones of midnight blue upper, a true navy blue side, a cerulean tongue and a cool gray, all slipping on the middle side of the shoe. A frayed orange heel strip and a bright red fox stripe add pops of color to the design, which is complemented by decorative stitching and strategic fraying.

The collection also expands to four additional offerings – the OG Classic Slip-On, the OG Style 23 LX, the OG Style 24 in luxury herringbone tweed and the OG Slip-On LX – all of which have been dressed with the twist. signature of the creator. .

In addition to shoes, the capsule includes a range of clothing, including a kaleidoscopic print chore coat inspired by handcrafted rugs, tapestries and rugs and a graphic crewneck sweatshirt that features raised construction and own artwork. Cabourn silkscreen printed on the front.
