TSL designs LyondellBasell CirculenRecover polyamide-based snowshoe

Rotterdam – June 21, 2022 – Based on LyondellBasell (NYSE: LYB) CirculateRecover polyamide, sports equipment specialist TSL has created an innovative snowshoe that will delight outdoor sports enthusiasts. The insole of the new snowshoe model is not only based on recycled materials, it also combines extreme resistance with a trendy design.

As a world leader in the development and manufacture of snowshoes, TSL’s values are strongly linked to respect for nature, well-being and innovation. It was therefore natural for TSL to invest in the use of recycled materials for a new model of snowshoes. The challenge of this project was to find a plastic material based on recycled materials, but which at the same time fulfills all the technical and visual requirements. LyondellBasell’s CirculateThe Recover range of products, based on mechanically recycled raw materials, provided the solution.

“Snowshoes in general and their soles in particular are obviously used in extreme conditions,” explains Bruno Viala, business development manager at LyondellBasell. “They must be very resistant to shocks and cold temperatures and also durable over time. These requirements are generally incompatible with plastics made from recycled raw materials. After several meetings and tests, we selected with TSL our CirculateRetrieve the EP PA MV SHI H rating for this project. The product contains approximately 80% recycled material and meets the exacting quality and design standards of TSL’s customers.

“This was our first time working with LyondellBasell on new product development, and we were impressed with their teams’ experience with materials and blending,” said Yoan Bibollet, Development Manager at STL. “The plastic material we selected for the insole ticked all the boxes. We were looking for a deep black colored product which is currently in demand in racket design. Our experts tested the prototypes in real life, under harsh conditions and they passed all the tests without any problems. Plus, it was surprisingly easy to process, which of course delighted our manufacturing teams.

TSL’s durable snowshoe model is now entering series production and will be available for the 2022/2023 winter season.
