ROMEO Beckham is a chip from the old block by landing a £ 1.2million contract to become the new face of Puma.

The teenager had already followed in his father David’s footsteps by becoming a professional footballer – and has now reflected his commercial success off the pitch.

Insiders said the very expensive deal with the sportswear giant was the first in a series of lucrative collaborations planned for it over the next few years.

A source said: ‘Romeo has been paid £ 1.2million for his contract to become the new global face of Puma.

“He is now the richest of the Beckham brood and, like his father, is well on his way to becoming a super star.

“Romeo is really hardworking and, in addition to pushing for success on the pitch playing for Fort Lauderdale CF, David’s reserve team at Inter Miami, he’s also making a name for himself among the announcers.

“The deal with Puma will hopefully turn out to be a long-standing collaboration.

“Just as David has worked with adidas for over 20 years, it is likely that Romeo will do the same with Puma.

“He’s young and perfect for their target demographic, so for Puma he was worth every penny.

“This is just the first of big business deals off the pitch for Romeo in his new career as a professional footballer.

Designer label Yves Saint Laurent has shown a real interest in Romeo after working with them this summer and it is likely that they will try to trap him for another campaign.

“The future is very bright for Romeo and it won’t be long before he takes in another million.”

Romeo, the second eldest son of ex-Man United and England superstar, David, 46, and Victoria, 47, divide his time between the United States where he plays football and the United Kingdom where the family is based.

His brother, Brooklyn, 22, also lives in the United States with his fiancee, model Nicola Peltz, and earlier this month started an online cooking show.

Meanwhile, Cruz, 16, and Harper, ten, are still at school.

Romeo signed for Fort Lauderdale CF in September and has played for the club on several occasions.

He made a name for himself in the fashion industry and in 2011 he was named Britain’s 26th best dressed man, just eight years old.

Two years later, he signed his first big contract with Burberry and became the star of several campaigns for the British brand.

He was also a model for Canada Goose clothing and, in January, was the cover model for L’Uomo Vogue for the first time.
