Off-White ™ x Pioneer DDJ-1000 controller, sartorial collaboration

Mark: Off-White â„¢ x Pioneer

Buy: Off-White â„¢, Farfetch and some flagship Off-White â„¢ products already offer these garments; the DDJ-1000-OW controller will make its world debut in limited numbers via Pioneer DJ.

Editor’s Notes: Virgil Abloh is a man of many talents, having explored the fields of fine art, architecture, industrial design and (duh) fashion in only the last decade. Often he hybridizes his creative interests, dropping derivative products in his art exhibitions or creating “sculptural” utilities. Throughout it all, music plays a central role, as evidenced by its partnerships with Pioneer DJ.

The first two bonded in 2019 for a non-sales collaboration, in which Abloh showcased exclusive transparent CDJ-2000NXS2 and DJM-900NXS2 in his “Figures of Speech” exhibit (yet another crossover!). Now they’re back for a line of products you can actually buy, including co-branded clothing and a bespoke DDJ-1000-OW controller.

Citing the all-caps vanity of “SOUND ENGINEERING”, Off-White â„¢ and Pioneer have concocted their special DJ DDJ-1000 with the intention of unifying the recognizable philosophy of the two companies. In fact, the new controller borrows its layout from the two devices – the CDJ-2000NXS2 and the DJM-900NXS2 – that Abloh featured on his “Figures of Speech” show.

Pioneer says these two flag bearers are considered standard clubs by professional DJs – with no DJ experience, I personally cannot confirm or deny it, but I can say that the flashy orange accent, the bright buttons colorful and co-branding script are nice touches.

There is also a range of “SOUND ENGINEERING” themed clothing to accompany the fall, including white t-shirts finished with fancy lettering, black layers loaded with green prints, and a faded denim jacket that is a bit off the mark. of them. A themed bag also appears in campaign images, but does not appear to be currently available.

“I wanted to take this opportunity to bring technology and human interaction together,” Virgil Abloh said in a statement. “Music and fashion, in my opinion, are those intense forces that have the unique power to bring people together while allowing you to make your own statement at the same time.”

“Virgil’s ability to connect a myriad of art forms is a fearless display of limitless creative potential,” said Yoshinori Kataoka, President and CEO of AlphaTheta Corporation.
