A new combat uniform for the Indian Air Force was unveiled on Saturday to mark Indian Air Force Day. At the event in Chandigarh, five officers were seen wearing the new uniform – designed to camouflage themselves in the wild. The new uniform has a unique design and functional details. Five officers, including a woman, marched in uniform during the Air Force Day event. They were followed by two other officers who showed off the new Air Force combat t-shirt – a new addition to the institution.

The uniform was designed by a standing dress committee – observing changing styles of warfare and is an important and much needed addition. Uniform design was deemed very critical to mission accomplishment.

The government also approved the creation of a new branch, called the Weapons Systems Branch (WS) in the Air Force – aimed at bringing about the unification of all weapon systems operators under one entity. It will be dedicated to the operational employment of all land-based and specialized airborne weapon systems and will save 3,400 crore.

During the event, IAF Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari also announced that the IAF plans to induct female Agniveers next year.

During the event, the ceremonial parade also took place following an inspection by Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari. Air Officer Commander-in-Chief of Western Air Command, Air Marshal Sreekumar Prabhakaran among others were also present on the occasion.

As the IAF Chief arrived, an ensign formation by 3 Mi-17V5 helicopters conducted a flyover led by Wing Commander Vishal Jain.

The new “Prachand” light combat helicopter and several other aircraft, including light combat aircraft (LCA) Tejas, Sukhoi, Mig-29, Jaguar, Rafale, IL-76, C-130J and Hawk, will be part of the flyover. Among the helicopters, Advanced Light Helicopter Dhruv, Chinook, Apache and Mi-17 will also be included in the aerial presentation.
