New Delhi, India, November 16 (ANI / PNN): Shopping for designer clothes can be tedious as some brands follow UK size while others follow US size as both men and women figure Indian differs from that of their British counterparts and the United States.
A specific size of one brand may differ from the specific size of the other brand of clothing. Usually, the consumer compromises on the fit of his shirt or pants when purchasing designer clothes.
Among several issues, a common example is the neck size of Indian men, which vary from their Western counterparts. Indian men tend to have a slightly thicker neck than the Western man in his class.

This anomaly will no longer be experienced by customers as India is about to release its own size chart – INDIA SIZE which will usher in a radical change in the Indian garment industry. To counter this problem at the local level, the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), under the aegis of the Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India, has launched a large national sizing survey to create an anthropometric database of Indian measurements, which is a true representative of the entire Indian population.
After completing the sizing process in New Delhi, it is now being carried out in full swing in Mumbai by NIFT, having been completed at two shopping malls – Orion Mall and Inorbit Mall. Currently, they are quickly performing the process in the R-City shopping center, Ghatkopar in this city. INDIA SIZE is expected to be rolled out within the next year.
The survey has been conducted since July 2021 with support from Design Smith Pvt. Ltd. The monumental project approved by the Indian government and supported by the CMAI industrial consortium involves measuring over 25,000 (twenty-five thousand) people aged 15-65 in six different cities located in six regions of India, namely New Delhi (North), Mumbai (West), Chennai (South), Hyderabad (Center), Kolkata (East) and Shillong (Northeast) using non-contact and human-friendly 3D body scanning technology.
The inauguration of Delhi Leg took place at Select Citywalk in the presence of Secretary Textiles (MoT) Upendra Prasad Singh, DG NIFT Shantmanu and AS & FA (MoT) Shashi Ranjan Kumar.
