Heart of Cartm celebrates its transformation and a winning designer | Community

Heart of Cartm is thrilled to announce that Sally Salkowski is the winner of the Trash Bash Art Festival poster design. Sally will receive $500 for her colorful design featuring a model wearing a Warhol-style dress printed with soup cans and a trash can hat. “I was visualizing Trash Bash and all the colors and textures and creativity,” Sally explains. “The community spirit that fuels this event has been my inspiration.”

Cartm recently invited artists to submit advertising poster designs that would best represent our beloved annual Trash Bash. Seventeen designs had been received when the competition closed last week. A committee of Cartm board members and Trash Bash organizers chose the winner, Sally Salkowski of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Sally told us about herself: “After 23 years of teaching design, I changed careers this fall and started my own little graphic studio called Design Fixr. The intent of my work is to help people solve design problems by teaching and creating accessible, challenging and fun design.

The Trash Bash Art Festival event has gone through many changes since its humble beginnings in 1999 at Manzanita Transfer Station. The 2022 event will celebrate these and the great transformation process of the organization.

Heart of Cartm encourages the use of waste as a resource with their mission to reinvent waste. Sally’s poster proudly announces this mission and fundraising for the rebuilding of the Heart of Cartm organization.

You’re encouraged to celebrate transformation among the awesome magic of art and costumes made entirely from scrap at this year’s Trash Bash Art Festival May 12-15, 2022. We can’t wait to see what you’ve been working on! Let the Heart of Cartm team know you want to be part of the show. Visit www.heartofcartm.org
