Festive lollipops from Pawtucket-based pastry maker Popette of Pendulum bring holiday cheer

Want the socks packed with a little extra cheer this year? Goodies from the Pawtucket-based artisan candy maker Pendulum Popette will bring an extra dose of cheerfulness. Just in time for Christmas, Popette releases two festive candies – a vanilla swirl and candy cane reindeer lollipops.

Popette founder Brenda Swift – Rhode Island’s own Wilhelmina Wonka – started her candy business with the belief that “pure is possible”. Swift sources local and organic ingredients to make Popette’s sweet treats, which are vegan as well as gluten and nut free.

Before Swift put on her pastry hat, she was a fashion designer in New York City. The RISD alum has designed clothing for luxury retailers like Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman, Henri Bendel and Bloomingdales. While taking a break from the fashion industry, she began to take an interest in candy making and, still the artist, added a hand painted pattern to her confections. Her creative background is evident in her artisanal candies. Each pop is embellished with a whimsical brushstroke pattern.

Swift spent a year playing with the recipe – which uses brown rice syrup instead of corn, organic cane sugar, and no chemical additives – before starting to sell them at farmers’ markets across the state. Today, Popette of Pendulum can be found in specialty stores across the United States and in Bloomingdales.
