Fashion designer launches online store, Maison Black, for black luxury designers

Shoppers looking for luxury black designer clothing now have a one-stop-shop for all of their high-end fashion needs. Since its launch last month, Black House provided consumers with an online experience to purchase black luxury brands.

Tori Nichel, founder and creative director, based Maison Black will give emerging and established black designers a chance to launch, showcase and grow their businesses, Yahoo Finance reported.

“I created Maison Black to build an ecosystem that promotes design excellence and the creativity of black designers. I want to create a destination of discovery where products designed by Black are accessible around the world. Our mission is to serve the black designer community to create access, exposure and longevity in the fashion industry, ”Nichel said of his New York-based company.

A designer herself, Nichel has held several positions in the fashion industry. The Fashion Institute of Technology and Michigan State University graduate previously worked as a senior designer at Kenneth Cole. She also worked as Chief Designer at Tibi, Designer of her own eponymous brand and Director of Design at Sears Holding Corp. She also appeared on NBC Fashion star.

Maison Black is currently showcasing six Detroit-native designers who in October celebrated the site’s launch with a catwalk presentation in Detroit titled “Manhattan to Motown.” The collections include Apotts (Aaron Potts), Kevan Hall, Isaiah Hemmingway, N’Gai (Nicole King), Truth (Sharryl Cross), and the SMcGee collection (Shawna McGee).

Nichel, also from Detroit, said she chose “this special crop of designers” because they “bonded through their 40s and created an engaging community of support and shared ideas. Our collective connection to Detroit has tied us together. Our creative visions for the future have inspired us.

The e-commerce site only manages fulfillment but does not interfere with inventory. Retail prices for advanced contemporary and affordable luxury items range from $ 298 to $ 2,600. Nichel’s next big project for Maison Black is to launch a digital magazine.

“We will now focus on [docu-]series, ‘Black Behind the Brands’, I created and produced by management, ”she shared. “It will be Maison Black’s vehicle to share the black stories of underrepresented, unacknowledged people and amplify their contributions to a multi-billion dollar industry. We intend to disrupt the traditional retail space with groundbreaking digital experiences that are culturally inclusive for all and expressive. “

For the founder, build quality and manufacturing capabilities are two important factors when selecting site designs. The site focuses on women’s clothing, some men’s clothing, jewelry, and handbags. Next year the plan is to expand into interior design.

“Black designers need and deserve a retail platform and space that upholds their design excellence and creative expertise while providing the opportunity to expand their customer base and / or be a ramp of. launch for their brands and collections, ”said Nichel. “I want to help black designers develop and grow their businesses. Maison Black’s mission is to build legacies and ensure sustainability.
