Facilities and equipment from London’s iconic Dorchester Hotel to be auctioned
LONDON, UK, May 21, 2022 /EINPresswire.com/ — One of London’s most legendary hotels is set to auction more than 2,000 items next month, as part of a massive gradual renovation.
Located in the heart of Mayfair and overlooking Hyde Park, The Dorchester will sell furniture, artwork and accessories all reflecting its jaw-dropping grandeur.
In a two-day sale led by auctioneer Pro Auction, buyers will be able to pick up the trappings of a five-star lifestyle as The Dorchester begins a major refurbishment.
The Dorch, as it is affectionately known, will be auctioning off its treasures for the very first time. The auction will cover all aspects of each room’s furniture, including sofas, lamps, rugs, chandeliers and draperies, as well as desks, televisions, headboards and other decorative accessories. Of course, there are offerings for the more practical shopper: soft poufs upholstered in velvet and silk and trimmed with fringe, marble coffee tables, as well as the contents of the bar and promenade designed by the architect and renowned designer Thierry Despont.
Furniture and fittings from the famous Promenade and legendary bar will feature in the sale, along with signed prints by HRH The Prince of Wales, Derek Rangecroft and Heidi Koenig. Luxury Italian lighting and chandeliers from Laudarte and Barovier & Toso will be auctioned, and there will be fine furniture from Restall Brown and others.
With a history dating back to 1931, The Dorchester has always made a positive impression on royalty, A-list celebrities and those who enjoy the finer things in life. It will be the largest large-scale refurbishment at The Dorchester since 1989 and will begin with the hotel entrance, promenade and bar at The Dorchester, plus two guest floors, with the work due to be completed by September 2022.
As part of the hotel’s commitment to providing guests with unrivaled facilities and services. the two most prestigious names in design have been appointed to enhance all rooms and public spaces and incorporate the latest innovations while honoring the building’s architectural heritage as one of London’s most revered landmarks. Pierre-Yves Rochon will redesign the hotel entrance, La Promenade, and the new rooms and suites, while Martin Brudnizki Design Studio will redesign the bar.
The Dorchester remains open throughout the refurbishment, with afternoon tea served in the spectacular Orchid Room and a Mediterranean concept for The Dorchester Rooftop throughout the summer. The Grill, Alain Ducasse and China Tang all remain open as normal, as do the Dorchester Spa, the hotel’s ballroom, the Penthouse & Pavilion and the Chef’s Table.
Simon Rose of Pro Auction said: “This major hotel refurbishment project offers the opportunity to buy a piece of the hotel’s history at auction as the owners pave the way for a new chapter for The Dorchester. .”
The auction takes place at the hotel on June 21 and 22, 2022 from 10:30 a.m. each day. Online auctions will also be available via a live webcast. The sales catalog is downloadable
