“I found beautiful seashells in Mexico, pebbles on the beach in my grandmother’s village in Greece, and unique freshwater pearls that I first hand-cast into metal,” says the Toronto-based jewelry designer behind the Biko brand. .

Using the natural objects found, Anestopoulos “manually manipulates” the pieces into “lightweight and portable” models.

“These components are finally combined with classic shapes to create our unique, nostalgic and modern collections,” explains Anestopoulos. We caught up with Anestopoulos to find out more.

Q. For those who do not know, what is Biko jewelry?

A. Biko is a modern and nostalgic jewelry brand that offers you timeless and elevated classics for every day. Each piece is lovingly handcrafted by our small team in Toronto. I am inspired by contemporary design, global curiosities and the delicate shapes of nature, so Biko is truly a celebration of the playful patterns I observe in the world around me. I work with a variety of signature elements each season like hand-cast pendants, natural stones like pearls and elegant mixed metals like rhodium and 14k gold, to create modern and refined silhouettes.

Q. What makes it unique?

A. Biko is 100% designed and manufactured locally in Toronto in small batches. Each piece is also made in a sustainable and ethical manner. With each collection, I personally collect pieces from nature, such as seashells, pebbles and pearls that I melt into metal, which makes our Biko components completely unique and rich in stories behind them.

Q. Who is the target customer?

A. There is certainly something for everyone in every Biko collection. We have large, on-trend pieces for people who like to make a splash with their jewelry, and smaller, more dainty pieces for those who want to look refined but understated. I have sold pieces to men looking for pendants and to mothers and daughters buying several pieces together for an occasion. This shows me time and time again that Biko truly transcends generations, genres, tastes and styles.

Q. Is there a “hero” product in the range?

A. Our latest collection is called Molten Pearl and is inspired by the mysterious freshwater pearl. In this collection, I would say that the Barroco Hoops are the “stars” of the show. They are a bit playful and above all essential. Knowing the variety of tastes and styles our clients have, we have also seen the Wavi Hoops & Huggies, as well as the Molten Pendant and Shay Pendant also fly through the studio door.

Q. What is the price range of your products?

A. Prices range from $ 75 for a small pair of nails to $ 345 for larger, more trendy necklaces.

Q. And finally, where can we consult them?

A. You can buy Biko from our website ilovebiko.com and be sure to follow us on @biko_official to stay up to date with new collections, specials and more.
