The architecture department of ETH Zurich is launching a call for applications for two chairs. The chairs are located at the IEA Institute of Design and Architecture.
Design studios are the foundation of architectural education and critical thinking. They constitute the most effective and interdisciplinary forum in which the sharing of knowledge stimulates the architectural imagination to develop and discuss innovative responses to the most pressing societal and environmental problems of our time. In this context, and for the sake of continuity and complementarity, two professorships at the Institute of Design and Architecture (IEA) are to be filled, with the following axes of research and teaching:

The new professors are mainly responsible for giving lectures and running a design studio for the students of the 5th and 6th semesters of the bachelor’s program and the master’s program (including the master’s thesis) taking into account areas of overlap. between manufacturing techniques, materials properties, economy and sustainable management of resources. She or he will have to teach the theoretical foundations, methodological skills and specialist knowledge in the field of architectural design in relation to one of the axes mentioned above.
The research activities cover, like teaching, subjects in the field of architectural design, as well as architectural strategies with regard to the complex requirements of the building industry. Interdisciplinary collaborations are explicitly welcome.
Successful applicants must have a substantial architectural work to their credit, providing evidence of their expertise in relation to the above research and teaching areas in particular, and of their competence in the planning and construction of high-rise buildings. high quality in general. They have knowledge of the latest digital workflows and digitization opportunities. Their qualifications typically include completed university studies as well as teaching and research experience. The new professors should have a keen interest in collaborating with the chairs of the institutes of the department, in particular with the Institute for Landscape and Urban Studies LUS (Housing) and the Institute of Construction History and Preservation IDB (Re-Use) – as well as across different departments. Additional qualifications include the competence to lead a team and a commitment to the development of the architectural department beyond the limits of the specialty itself.
