Marking their first outpost in the Southern Hemisphere, Ace Hotel Sydney opens with 257 rooms; thrilling public spaces on the ground floor; a lobby bar and lounge; restaurant, café and bar on the ground floor; and artistic, musical, cultural and culinary programming. All intertwined with revolutionary design and details.
Located in the historic Tyne Building in Surry Hills, built over Australia’s first discovery kiln, the design was inspired by the color palette of the Australian landscape and surrounding neighborhood, with Flack Studio blending past and present in recognizing the Gadigal people of the Eora nation. ; the renegade razor gangs that ruled the 1920s; the modernist art boom of the 1960s; the Gay Solidarity Group protests of the 1970s; and the dynamic cultural fusion of generations of migrant communities. Created in careful partnership with Ace, it allows the brand to maintain its position at the forefront of its industry.
In keeping with Ace Hotel’s ethos of designing spaces that bring travelers and locals together, Ace Hotel Sydney welcomes like-minded souls to enjoy its vibrant lobby, an open common space that includes a sunken lounge perfect for the conversation, with an eclectic wine menu curated by Mike Bennie of P&V Wine + Liquor Merchants.
LOAM is located on the ground floor, a neighborhood restaurant also designed by Flack that offers a seasonal vegetable-based menu paired with sustainable meats and seafood, all sourced from the best independent farmers and producers in the region. . From the breakfast sandwich with grilled bacon and fried egg to fresh salads at lunch, or treats like charred octopus and the classic LOAM Burger with beet jam served later in the day and into the night, this place ( a sister location to the restaurant at Ace Hotel Downtown Los Angeles) is already having the neighborhood talking.
Rooms are small but homey with custom lighting and furniture; an in-room vinyl collection curated by Melbourne-based label Efficient Space; Rega turntables; D’Angelico guitars; and Tivoli radios. For nights spent hanging in the bedroom, Deiji Studios custom robes and Flack-designed Stansborough custom blankets will keep guests warm and toasty.
Although it has yet to open, the hotel will house a rooftop restaurant run by chef-partner, Mitch Orr. Located 18 stories above Surry Hills, the oven will be designed by Fiona Lynch Office and will serve a seasonal sharing menu that draws inspiration from the cuisines of Italy, Japan and Southeast Asia; all in a space inspired by the work of pioneering Italian-Australian architect Enrico Taglietti.
A reimagining of a culturally significant neighborhood, Ace Hotel Sydney is crashing onto the international hospitality scene and reminding everyone of its capabilities to change the industry. As.
